In 2023, a PH juice manufacturer had a 12% defect rate for its 250 ml cans - tiny seam leaks caused the cans to be damaged during transportation. Its original tinplate supplier blamed it on "processing errors", but internal testing confirmed that the material was the root cause:
1. Inconsistent thickness (0.20-0.23 mm, while the order thickness was 0.19 mm).
2. Weak tin plating (1.1/1.1 g/m2 peeling at the seams).
3. Rust spots after pasteurization.
The customer needed to find a solution within 8 weeks of the peak season.
Laiyuan simulated a 120°C pasteurization cycle on samples from its original supplier and then readjusted the material - using 0.19 mm DR-8M CA tinplate to enhance seam strength. In addition, 2.8/2.8 g/m2 of tin plating was used instead of the original 1.1/1.1 g/m2 (the inner coating is thicker and more acid-resistant).
In the end, the customer produced 50,000 test cans at a speed of 1,800 cans per minute, and its defect rate dropped from the original 12% to 0.3%.
The customer's "crisis" was successfully resolved, and we received the customer's recognition and trust. In the subsequent cooperation, the customer gradually strengthened the cooperation with us, and the order volume is also increasing year by year!
